From the beginning of man's recorded history, music has played a progressive role in defining the characteristics of culture the world over. This shines as truth, today, more than ever. Now, we not only listen to the music, we are the music! Through mass media marketing via music videos, movie soundtracks, radio airplay and CD sales in the multimillions, we have become saturated with not only the music but, also the lifestyles that are associated with what ever genre of music you may listen to. In short, you are what you listen to. We at Rules of Culture feel that the listener should play as large a role in defining his/her own culture as the music they listen to.

So, here we are. A new culture manifested from pure imagination existing as a mash-up of scientific beat structures, technology, art, and education from all walks of life. Since its birth, Hip-Hop has strived to be independent; standing alone as its own culture. From Kool Herc to Jumpin' Jack Frost, we have succeeded by elevating not only the elements of our culture,( lyricism, turntablism, can control, dance and entrepreneurship) but, also elevating the intellect and awareness of our people.
